  CLARIFICATION

  This outing is not strenuous. We will be driving our cars between

  locations, NOT walking seven miles! The boardwalks are very civilized

  and short. Almost anyone could handle this activity. Sorry for the

  confusion. Sunscreen and insect repellent are always a good idea in

  Florida.

  I have been enjoying Big Cypress Swamp for fifty years because my

  family has property and a cabin three miles north of Oasis Visitor

  Center. Many of us would not care to hike into it so our day will be a

  casual introduction to a unique environment without getting our feet

  wet.

  I’m looking forward to a pleasant day with all my friends of many years.

  DAYTRIP TO BIG CYPRESS SWAMP

  This year I have chosen to skip the Founder’s Day fireworks and take a

  drive out to Clyde Butcher’s Photo Gallery,  the Oasis Visitor Center of

  Everglades National Park and Kirby Storter Roadside Park all located

  along Tamiami Trail (State Road 41). Bring your picnic lunch and maybe

  an extra treat to share if you like.

  We will meet at my home around 9:00am and carpool out to this

  unique native environment. There is a short walk outside of the gallery

  with great photo opportunities. Next we will continue west one mile to

  the Oasis Visitor Center for alligator viewing and educational exhibits.

  We might eat there or continue seven miles west to Kirby Storter

  Roadside Park for another boardwalk and wildlife viewing opportunity.

  There are comfort facilities at both locations.

  As we return to civilization later that afternoon we will pause for a meal

  in Pembroke Pines, restaurant to be determined. Then we can return

  to Kathi’s house where the pool is always open and inviting.

  I urge you to go online and view these adventure sites so you get a feel

  for what to expect. I’m looking forward to hosting this event and

  visiting with my diving friends of so many years.

  Gear needs: If you require tanks or other gear contact boat to reserve, these fees are paid directly to boat.

  Trip Cost: $ 80.00 - You have payment options, though we prefer that you use Zelle if it is available to you.

  1) If your financial institution allows you to send money using Zelle, you can send your payment to Treasurer@usadiveclub.org. Just be sure to say what the payment is for in the memo.

  2) You could set up USA Dive Club as a payee in your bank's payment system and have your bank send payments. Then you don't have to keep writing and mailing checks.

  3) Or, if you are still writing checks, you can make out a personal check to "USA Dive Club" and mail it to Ronnie Farr, our club Treasurer. Or you can bring your check to a meeting and hand it to the event organizer.

  Last call to sign up before we have to return unused rooms at the end of February.

  Spend a relaxing week at the premier, deluxe, full-service resort on Little Cayman Island.  We have been there multiple times and it is always a fun trip.  Rated as the number one destination in the Caribbean for wall diving, number two for favorite reef diving, the sea life and underwater photography, the dive sites, water temps and visibility are outstanding, never to be forgotten by those who have experienced them.  For those of you who have not experienced the diving at Little Cayman, it’s everything you can dream about, dramatic vistas, amazing photo opportunities/views, wildlife that must be seen to be believed (like the friendly groupers that follow you like a puppy everywhere)!

  Divers don’t have to lug gear every day from their rooms or even onto the boat. Your gear will be collected once you arrive and stored at the shop next to the dock. You set up your gear the first day on the boat and after that, the Reef Diver crew set up your gear and change your tanks for you. You need only to stroll down the dock, jump on a boat (the large, comfortable, covered boats!) and go diving. The four boats are 42 to 46 ft long and 16 ft. wide and have freshwater showers and restrooms.  Rinse tanks and a drying room are on the dock for mask, fins and wet suits. 

  Roger Cooper will be your trip leader (newsletter@usadiveclub.org).  Airfare is not included in this trip. You can use whichever airlines you prefer. Roger will provide flight suggestions if needed.

  Once there, we dive, eat, relax, and just generally have a fantastic time for the whole week!  There is a pool, wi-fi, beach chairs and hammocks, and you can rent kayaks, sailboats, and paddleboards as well.  All diving and dining will be done at the Little Cayman Beach Resort.
