CLARIFICATION
This outing is not strenuous. We will be driving our cars between
locations, NOT walking seven miles! The boardwalks are very civilized
and short. Almost anyone could handle this activity. Sorry for the
confusion. Sunscreen and insect repellent are always a good idea in
Florida.
I have been enjoying Big Cypress Swamp for fifty years because my
family has property and a cabin three miles north of Oasis Visitor
Center. Many of us would not care to hike into it so our day will be a
casual introduction to a unique environment without getting our feet
wet.
I’m looking forward to a pleasant day with all my friends of many years.

DAYTRIP TO BIG CYPRESS SWAMP
This year I have chosen to skip the Founder’s Day fireworks and take a
drive out to Clyde Butcher’s Photo Gallery, the Oasis Visitor Center of
Everglades National Park and Kirby Storter Roadside Park all located
along Tamiami Trail (State Road 41). Bring your picnic lunch and maybe
an extra treat to share if you like.
We will meet at my home around 9:00am and carpool out to this
unique native environment. There is a short walk outside of the gallery
with great photo opportunities. Next we will continue west one mile to
the Oasis Visitor Center for alligator viewing and educational exhibits.
We might eat there or continue seven miles west to Kirby Storter
Roadside Park for another boardwalk and wildlife viewing opportunity.
There are comfort facilities at both locations.
As we return to civilization later that afternoon we will pause for a meal
in Pembroke Pines, restaurant to be determined. Then we can return
to Kathi’s house where the pool is always open and inviting.
I urge you to go online and view these adventure sites so you get a feel
for what to expect. I’m looking forward to hosting this event and
visiting with my diving friends of so many years.
